Current Quarterly at the Cape Cod Airfield

Good Morning Fall!

I have been chomping at the bit to share with you the photos from this amazing collaboration that I was lucky to be apart of.

Back in September I was approached by Amanda from the Current Quarterly and Shift, and asked if I would help with her fall season photoshoot for their quarter magazine. I was beyond excited, especially after we learned of her ideas and inspirations. Not to mention the other artists I would get to work with.

So without further ado… here is the gorgeous Fiona Murphy at the Cape Cod Airfield with Hair by Kate Scott of Hair & Lifestyle Design, Makeup by Andrea Kooharian-Simpson, Clothes by  Homegrowntrades, Stylings by Amanda Converse from Shift and Photography by Me, Michelle Kaye Photography.

Walsh Family

Another family is up on the blog! This time it’s the Walsh Family!
Gorgeous and stylish are two perfect words to describe them.

MKP_Bayview Beach Portraits_MichelleKayephotography-9787

We were lucky enough to have low tide at Bayview Beach, in Dennis MA.
Cape Cod Ma has many great beaches for photos but I think Mayflower Beach and Bayview Beach in Dennis are the most beautiful. Yes, I’m a little bias being from Dennis but at low tide the kids have the best little pools to play in and the view is gorgeous!

The sky didn’t disappoint either. Their theme of blue and white is a classic for cape cod and their little girl’s stripes were so adorable. As we played, they gave me the best giggles and smiles.
I also think there might be a little photographer in their future! She took a few photos of her parents and her grandma. Not bad little one!

The clouds were amazing and the rays of sun shining through felt like little blessings for our photos. Enough about our shoot… time for the photos!

Proposal Photography- it’s a thing!

Proposal Photo Services Available

Did you know that Michelle Kaye Photography offers proposal photo services? That’s right! We will come to your proposal and photograph the whole event for you! Don’t worry, we’ll be discreet – she’ll never even know we are there until after she says yes and you tell her we are there. You may not know this, but photographers are also trained in the art of being spies.

You may not think it is important, but girls want secret proposal photography almost as much as they want the ring. (Well, maybe not quite that much, but a lot.) This is one of the most important moments of your soon-to-be-wife’s life and all of her friends and family are going to be ask how it happened. What better way to share that moment with them than with amazing, professional photos? I’m telling you, your girl will brag about you for years to come!

You can purchase this service a la carte, or we can add it on to your engagement or wedding package. For pricing and booking information or if you have any questions about this process, please contact us at info@mkayephoto.com.

March and More…. Thank You

Wow, January 8th was the last time I posted? been a long time. Lots of things have happened and more growing still is happening…

First and foremost I need to thank everyone that made the Boudoir Marathon a success!
The location was a stunning Mansion in Falmouth and I owe the biggest Thank you to Judy Shaw for lending it to me.
The lighting was perfect, the rooms were amazing and the photos came out stunning!

I had a great time, learned a lot about what I would do differently next time, and enjoyed each and every beautiful woman!!

Next, I am getting ready to teach a photography class to Realtors TOMORROW! Can you believe it? It’s been over a year since I taught photography to anyone, and I’m refreshing my memory with staging and using point and shoot cameras but I’m really excited. I can’t wait!

Also, I have two new assistants, ready and excited to start working with all of 2013 clients. They are great and will be introduced at a later date. Combining minds around photography has always been one of the best parts about the business. The creativity that comes out of talking, playing and working together is amazing and always helps me to continue to do more. Offer more. and just laugh more.

Bookings into the 2013 season for Weddings and Portraits are well on their way. One of my most recent bookings is for June with Abby and Jason. Just listening to their wedding plans has me SO excited for summer. A combination of Old cars, yard games, and a beautiful location… It’s going to be so much fun. They always have me smiling when I leave a meeting with them!

Let’s see… anything else? Oh Yes! The Flash Drives are ordered! No more Cd’s (unless you’re buying only a few digital files). But Weddings are all Flash drives now. Safer, cleaner, and easier to use on most computers and devices. I’ll post photos once they arrive.

I am also a new member to PPOCC Professional Photographers of Cape Cod. http://www.ppocc.org/ppocc/index.php
This is a big deal for me because it’s getting to be around more like-minded professionals that put their clients first! I can’t wait to attend the first meeting.

I truly feel blessed to be back home on Cape Cod and working in the best profession.
I will attempt to blog a little bit more… but wedding season is starting in March for Michelle Kaye Photography which usually makes it a busy time…

So Don’t miss a moment, call me today to make sure we have your photography investment on the calendar.

All The Best!
Michelle

A Beautiful Wedding in NY

I’ve been away from blog posts for too long…

Last weekend I was honored to be the photographer for a great couple… I played Roller Derby with the bride for 3 years and love her dearly! They also own R’Eisen Shine farm… If you haven’t checked them out, PLEASE do! They are an organic farm that you can buy into and enjoy the harvest all year long! (Wish we still lived in New York so I could do it myself!)

I’m so excited to share with you a sneak peek from their amazing Day!
Congratulations Kim and Ejay, you are a beautiful couple, inside and out!

Gadgets and Gizmo’s

I’m such a gadget girl that it’s kinda annoying because it’s too expensive to be a gadget girl. You also have to balance your business versus purchasing of gadgets. I’ve priced everything out from traveling backup of my digital files, to Ipads, to Ring Lights all the way to my favorite pens. But I have to keep myself in check. Yes Gadgets are fun, but, (and I learned this from another blog, sorry to say I can’t remember the name. I’ll keep looking) you have to separate the Shiny from the necessary. With that said… I just bought a new Ray Flash. http://www.ray-flash.com/rayflash/index.php hahaha

Now I’ve read all the reviews and how people say it loses a few stops of light, and a lot of people took them apart and improved on it, but I wasn’t planning on doing any of that. I have to say I appreciate everyone that writes posts about products. It helped me immensely when I was thinking about buying this. I even looked at the $40 ones knowing you get what you pay for. I was planning to take apart the $40 one and make it better per the suggestions in Flickr’s Photo comments. I just decided I didn’t want any additional work if I wasn’t going to use it daily. * I read a review on flickr which was very helpful but can’t find it now. I’ll post here if I do find it. Another one about the photojojo Ring flash adapter is here.

I bought this used… way cheaper than the brand new and I bought it for setting up a Photobooth at my cousin’s wedding. * also remember for a Great Photobooth your best light source will be a Ring Light. Different from the Ring flashes, the Ring lights provide their own source of light from bulbs built into the ring. The Ray Flash just steals the light from your flash, hence the difference in name. Duh.

The RayFlash, goes for around $200, other options are the Orbis (but you need to buy an additional arm attachment around $50). But if you’re lucky enough like me, you can find it used online through Amazon or some other place. I got mine for $89 and actually… I LOVE IT! It’s so much fun and it works perfectly for my photobooth. I use the Canon 5D Mark II (Which I also LOVE) and the ring fits right on the flash and around my lens. It has a twisty knob at the top that secures (tightens) the fit to the flash head (using a Canon speedlight 580EZII)

All in all I’m really happy with my purchase for the money I spent. It arrived fast and is a clean product. As a Cape Cod Wedding Photographer and a Beach Portrait Photographer I plan on bringing it with me to my shoots and seeing what happens. I like my current process of portraits but I’m always willing to try new/more things to make myself better. So we’ll see… stay tuned for photos. I’ll let you know which were RayFlash too!

Thanks for Tuning in!
