Photos of The Current Quarterly

There’s very few places where you can go on Cape Cod where they don’t know about the Current Quarterly or it’s Creator Amanda Converse.

Not only is it an awesome little magazine that comes out… yes you guessed it, QUARTERLY! but it’s always full of awesome gift ideas, local places to visit and check out.

I have been blessed to be the photographer for the last year and a half, creating new portraits on Cape Cod. I always get giddy when I get that message asking me if I’m available to do the next one. Amanda is full of great ideas and plans for each season and always finds great local people to be our models.

The team that comes together to create the magic of Hair, makeup and clothes is always a powerful one because we LOVE what we do, and the passion each of us has, brings out the pure beauty every time.

I wanted to share with you all some of the images over the past year that have NOT made it into the magazine. I feel like we have made some magic with these and they need to see the light of day.

If you are looking for a makeup artist for an event or for your cape cod wedding, you would be sorely lacking if you did not check out Andrea Kooharian Makeup. She’s cute as a button, sweet as can be and is amazing with her talents.

Hair has been done by the talented Stacey Kuehn Hair. She’s funny, sweet, cute and works effortlessly to make your hair stunning.

Rose Family at the Beach

Hi again, Peeps!

Let me stop for a second to tell you that I am seriously the luckiest photographer in the world. My clients are always so amazing to work with. That’s true of my session with the Rosi family, too!

I met up with them this summer at their home in Dennis and the weather was perfect for photo-taking. It was warm and sunny, with an impeding storm over the ocean, giving us very moody clouds in the distance. While the weather was fine, it was the Rosi family that made this shoot such a joy.

“Our favorite parts were the candid moments playing with the kids or enjoying the sunset and chatting.,” says Tina Rosi.

As you can see from the comments above and the photos below, this family is not only photogenic, but also a close-knit group who clearly love spending time together. They are lucky to have each other and enjoy spending as much time together as possible.

See below for some teasers from our session!

Current Quarterly at the Cape Cod Airfield

Good Morning Fall!

I have been chomping at the bit to share with you the photos from this amazing collaboration that I was lucky to be apart of.

Back in September I was approached by Amanda from the Current Quarterly and Shift, and asked if I would help with her fall season photoshoot for their quarter magazine. I was beyond excited, especially after we learned of her ideas and inspirations. Not to mention the other artists I would get to work with.

So without further ado… here is the gorgeous Fiona Murphy at the Cape Cod Airfield with Hair by Kate Scott of Hair & Lifestyle Design, Makeup by Andrea Kooharian-Simpson, Clothes by  Homegrowntrades, Stylings by Amanda Converse from Shift and Photography by Me, Michelle Kaye Photography.

Walsh Family

Another family is up on the blog! This time it’s the Walsh Family!
Gorgeous and stylish are two perfect words to describe them.

MKP_Bayview Beach Portraits_MichelleKayephotography-9787

We were lucky enough to have low tide at Bayview Beach, in Dennis MA.
Cape Cod Ma has many great beaches for photos but I think Mayflower Beach and Bayview Beach in Dennis are the most beautiful. Yes, I’m a little bias being from Dennis but at low tide the kids have the best little pools to play in and the view is gorgeous!

The sky didn’t disappoint either. Their theme of blue and white is a classic for cape cod and their little girl’s stripes were so adorable. As we played, they gave me the best giggles and smiles.
I also think there might be a little photographer in their future! She took a few photos of her parents and her grandma. Not bad little one!

The clouds were amazing and the rays of sun shining through felt like little blessings for our photos. Enough about our shoot… time for the photos!

McCarthy Family

Next up is the fantastic McCarthy Family.

As I drove into the parking lot, I spotted the numerous group of family members all dressed to the nines in white and navy, and a little bit of Red, White and Blue.
See if you can spot the red Cowgirl boots! Love them.

I met up with them at Seagull Beach at West Yarmouth, MA and the weather was perfect for photo-taking. A gentle breeze rustled the tall beach grass with soft puffy clouds floated over the water. The sun set behind the grass, gently brushing the sky with amazing pinks, purples and blues.  While the weather was fine, it was the McCarthy family that made this shoot such a treat.

The kids ages range from 2 years old all the way to 13 years  old. They even brought adorable Scally Caps from the grandparents trip to Ireland in April.

This is their 11th year for their family reunion on Cape Cod and I could tell they are a close-knit group who clearly love spending time together. I enjoyed being included in their play time.

Maldoon pups

I had the pleasure of capturing a friend’s four legged kids a few weeks ago. The weather was extremely hot and we were able to play and get great photos before it started to rain.

In a small location in Onset, MA, we walked all four legged kids to an overgrown dirt road. It was a great setting for these cute pups. They play there all the time and knew it well.

Sweet and beautiful German Shepards.

These puppies have such a strong bond with each other and with their dad, John. I adored watching him play and seeing them run and listen.

Kelly Family

Welcome guys and gals!

The fourth of July, holiday weekend brought with it many splendid events, including an amazing  session with the Kelly family. Large family portraits sometimes bring with it a need for being loud and trying to get everyone to listen. That did not happen with this incredible family. The kids were well behaved and adorable as ever! Playing with them was one of the highlights of my holiday.

MKP_whychmere Overlook_Cape Cod Family Portraits-9499

Due to high winds we needed to change plans from the open beach to the Harwich Overlook, at Whychmere Harbor . I love shooting at the Harwich Overlook  because the clouds never disappoint and it’s a classic cape cod landscape. Beautiful boats and the gorgeous ocean.

For our shoot, the Kelly’s wore a mix of blues, whites and coral. Such a great choice even for a change in our location. I love how the coral pops but it all mixes together so nicely. A great choice.

It truly was an amazing photo shoot. And if any of you are considering a family session or are prepping for an upcoming session, consider contacting me today to get your family session booked before we fill up!

Okay, on to pictures of the Kelly family!

Rennie Family

Hi Everyone! How was your Fourth of July? A great weekend was had by all on my small sandy spot on Cape Cod.

I recently had a super fun session with the Rennie family. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I truly have the best clients ever! This family was no exception, either. This family played around and joked, with me and around me, making me feel like I was with my own sisters.

We met at Grays Beach in Yarmouth Port. We had to move the date because mother nature had made other plans on us. It was meant to be, however, as the sky was gorgeous for our shoot night.

I loved shooting at Grays Beach because there are rocks on the side, a great spot for kids or adults to sit/stand on. Gorgeous green marsh to one side with the ocean on the other. Sand and a long boardwalk make this spot a great location with various looks.

For our shoot, the Rennie’s brought a couple college t-shirts, where the daughter’s were attending.  I thought it was a cute touch and a really great way to keep a moment in history. When they look back they’ll be able to have a beautiful visual of where they were at that time in their history.

It truly was an amazing photo shoot.

Okay, on to pictures of the Rennie family!

Why you should hire a professional photographer to do your events

Should I Hire a Professional Photographer to Document My Event?

If you’re on the fence about whether or not to hire someone to photograph your event, consider these reasons:2 upCrossetti3

Let’s say the event is a family reunion and you want to get a group photo of the whole family. You could do it yourself, but one of two things could happen then. A) You have someone take the photo for you, leaving a family member out of the photo because they had to take it. This could possibly offend that person or make them feel awkward for being excluded. Or B) You set a timer on your camera. This can be problematic because there are so many people in the photo that you will need to take several images to make sure everyone is looking and has their eyes open. You will have to take two to three times as long to get the photos done because you’ll have to keep resetting the timer, and you still might not have gotten the shot. Hiring a professional will eliminate all of this stress.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to go around all night taking selfies with my phone or camera with all of my friends and family members. I would much prefer to relax and enjoy the moment instead of trying to capture it. The quality of the photos will be much better than the selfies. Also, trying to take a selfie with a group of people is next to impossible when trying to get everyone inside the frame.

If the event is a birthday party, you don’t want to miss out on visiting with guests or helping your child open presents or cut the cake because you are too busy 2 upVincellotrying to take the photos. You want to be part of the action, not stuck behind the camera.

Another great thing about hiring a professional is that you don’t have to worry about editing and distributing the photos after the event is over. You just have to wait to receive them from your photographer.

Finally, it’s really a gift to have well lit photographs taking by a professional who preserve the memory of your event. Those images are going to be cherished by everyone for a very long time to come.

Sassatelli Family

Hi, everyone!

Oh how I just adore the family I’m blogging about today. I’m lucky enough to say I’ve been photographing the Sassatelli family for 6 years now! I truly can’t believe how much their daughter has grown and changed since I first met them.   (below is only one year ago)

Andrea is 6 years old and she reads like a champ. Most of the time you’ll find her reading or creating something amazing out of stuff around the house.

And, it goes without saying, Jeanette and John have become my friends over the time we’ve worked together. It’s hard to not become friends with someone like Jeanette, she’s a beautiful person, smart and a great friend. Dad and husband, John, is just as great. He’s an engineer and plays the bagpipes around their home all the time.

When Jeanette called me to take their photos again, I couldn’t stop smiling the rest of the day.

And as for the day of the shoot, I had so much fun! They had a pretty great time, too.

“Spring is gorgeous when the leaves are starting to blossom and the weather finally gets warm,” says Jeannette.

Okay, enough text. Check out the wonderful Sassatelli family!
